I am going to a local ballroom dance this month.. I think it will mostly be older people. I have never done this before. My husband and I are 20 years old and we have no clue what to wear!
Does he wear a suit?? or just a nice shirt??
dress pants?? nice shoes??
Do I wear a dress and heels?? dress and flats??
Nice pants amp; nice shirt??
I have NO idea. Dont want to look too over the top if everyone is casual. But If theyre dressing up nice, i want to look nice too.

FOR PRACTICE:
Okay, I ballroom dance, and every time I have practice I wear black pants (from Express, if that helps) and a Gap t-shirt! The women professionals usually wear some type of pants or long, loose skirt and a short-sleeve shirt. Make sure whatever you’re wearing isn’t too tight nor too loose to dance it.

I wouldn’t wear jeans of any kind, by the way.
Guys should wear some nice khakis or other pants and a buttondown shirt.
Shoe-wise : There are specific shoes for ballroom dancing, but you don’t need to buy those at first. Wear a shoe with a sole that won’t create TOO much friction and stop you from moving on the floor (example: DON’T wear sneakers with rubber soles. You can’t do it…just don’t try! Believe me, I know.) If you have a shoe with a short heel, try those. Make sure they won’t come off your feet when you’re moving around.
That being said, if it’s less of a ballroom practice session and more of a DANCE, you should wear a nice semi-formal dress that you can move around in, and your husband should probably wear a suit. He might be able to take his coat off later on in the night.
Just look presentable, and have fun! Ballroom is great!
